In a well-fought bout against Santa Cruz Sunday night, the Tampa Tantrums roller derby team won 109-77.
The Tantrums are part of the Tampa Bay Derby Darlins (TBDD). The league's teams include: Quad Killers (newbies), Aces on 8 (farm team), Tampa Bay Bruise Crew (B-level travel team), and Black Widows. Cigar City Mafia, Switchblade Sisters and the Tampa Tantrums (A-level travel teams).
The gals in the TBDD contribute to the Tampa Bay community by organizing fundraisers and partnering with various local charities. Players pride themselves on being role models for young girls and women in the region.
Bouts take place at USA's Skateplex at 5313 E. Busch Blvd., Tampa. Next bout: Sat., Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. Cigar City Mafia vs Switchblade Sisters (with Tampa Bay Derby Chicks). Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
