This Saturday, you can party arty at two different venues in downtown St. Pete. First up is the very Japanese-translated-into-English-sounding Super7 Star Wars Stormtrooper Super Shogun Release Party. Toy collector haven Super 7 Florida showcases the release of a Stormtrooper toy based on Japans Jumbo Machinder line of toy robots from the 1970s (pictured). So lets do the math: Nerd love for classic Japanese toys + nerd love for Star Wars = hours upon hours of pew pew. Later that evening, just a hop, skip and jump away, Dadas Dream Art Party goes down at ARTpool, featuring works of all types from local artists. A fashion show inspired by 20th-century French provocateur and occasional Dadaist Marcel Duchamp follows at 10 p.m. Super7 Star Wars Stormtrooper Super Shogun Release Party, 5 p.m. Sat., June 12, 720 Second St. N., St. Petersburg, super7florida.com; Dadas Dream Art Party, 7 p.m.-midnight, Sat., June 12, 919 First Ave. N., St. Petersburg, $15 day of show, $10 online through June 11, artpoolrules.com. —Anthony Salveggi
If you eschew craft brews for more mainstream fare, Sudsfest is the beer ball for you: pair brews from the Anheuser Busch family with nosh from more than a dozen local restaurants, sit back and enjoy the sea-nery. flaquarium.org. Sat., June 12, 8 p.m.-12 a.m., Florida Aquarium, Tampa, $50-$60.
This weekend's St. Pete Pride events include the opening reception on Friday at the Woodson African American Museum for an exhibition about the Harlem Renaissance, in which gay artists like poet Langston Hughes figured so prominently. Saturday morning is all about the beach: a cleanup in front of the Sirata Beach Resort and a picnic sponsored by FORGE, Inc. and West Coast Transgenders at Fort De Soto. Saturday night is ARTPride, a gallery walk (and/or trolley ride) through downtown St. Pete which includes a stop at Craftsman House for a show with a very punny but very apt name: CLAY Pride.
