Here's a great way to celebrate Black History Month: Florida Folk and Their Tales: Zora Neale Hurston. Professor and local African-American literary maven Phyllis McEwen brings to life the folklore, work songs, creation myths, spirituals and comedy that inspired the famed Florida writer, collected in the turpentine camps and jook joints of Florida during her tenure with the WPA.
The performance also features Studio@620 artistic director Bob Devin Jones.
Presented by The Studio@620 and Florida Humanities Council, advance tickets are sold out but standing room only will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Free. 7:30 p.m. Studio@620, 620 First Ave. S., St. Petersburg. 727-895-6620.
