Gastronomic Gallery: Food photos from the Florida State Fair

Grilled Meatloaf Sundae

The Florida State Fair hit town on Feb. 10.  There was a lot of publicity about some of the new culinary offerings prior to the opening.  I’m a meat and potatoes kind of guy and certainly don’t consider myself a food critic.  I’ll leave that job to Katie Machol and Brian Ries.  But with all the hype about the the newest fried fair fare I figured I could handle this assignment.  As a photojournalist I’m used to eating fast food fast.  While I usually watch what I eat, I figured one night of greasy goodness couldn’t hurt.  Frankly it was better than I thought it would be.  Here are some shots…

I hadn't eaten most of the day so I figured something non-fried of sustenance would be a good start.  That's where the Grilled Meat Loaf Sundae came in. It's a simple-food-eaters' delight.  There's a slice of meatloaf (it's pretty good meat loaf! ), topped by mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables and a cherry tomato.  From afar  it looks sort of like a chocolate-covered sundae.  It was delish! Now… on to something odd and fried..
