On Monday, festival organizers announced that Shine (stylized “SHINE”) is postponed until Nov. 8-17, with this caveat: “Not all the murals will be painted during these new dates—some of the visiting artists and some Bright Spots will happen when they can.”
Shine 10 brings 15 new murals to St. Petersburg, including an exciting collaboration between festival founder Leon “Tes One” Bedore and St. Pete’s most prolific muralists, The Vitale Brothers, at Modera St. Petersburg luxe apartments.
Other 2024 Shine murals include
- Ya La’Ford repainting the Rays Tunnel
- Zulu Painter adding a fresh mural to the AMI Kids building at 12022 Gandy Blvd.
- Johnny Vitale collaborating with world-renowned professional skateboarder Kris Markovich on a new mural at Anchor Skate Supply
- Frankie Gonzalez painting the FloridaRAMA building
- Cristi Lopez painting at Groove Haven
- Quinn Cale painting at DTSP craft beer bar, Main Grove
- Dwayne Shepherd & Brian McAllister painting Bell Pharmacy
- Naomi Haverland’s new mural in partnership with Tampa Bay Watch’s Pier Discovery Center.
“We understand new murals may not be top of mind for many people right now—caring for our basic needs takes priority,” organizers posted to social media, “but as St. Pete rebuilds, we believe art, particularly public art, can offer healing, hope, and a much-needed reminder of who we are as a community. In many ways, artists built St. Pete. We will be here to rebuild too.”
Shine 10 begins with a kickoff party and exhibition at The Morean Art Center Friday, Oct. 18, 5 p.m.-8 p.m. The Festival opening event showcases artwork by nearly 100 Shine artists from the past decade, including local favorites Chad Mize, Ya La’Ford, Zulu Painter, Reid Jenkins, Cory Robinson, Cecilia Lueza, Carrie Jadus, Bask and more.
