On Friday night, Oct. 1, Tampa's most prominent families (you know, the ones whose names you see on buildings and theaters around town) and Tampa non-profit organizations converged at the Straz Center to celebrate the cinematic achievement of a few of the city's sons — one is the son of former Tampa Mayor Bill Poe, Charlie Poe — and the others, actor/writer Morgan Simpson, a pal of Poe since middle school and fellow Plant High grad, and Berkeley Prep graduate Jeff Balis produced with Poe the inspirational indie film Black, White and Blues.
