Nicole Abbett captures downtown Tampa "City Lights" in a time lapse

About Agua Luces, Mayor Bob Buchorn, TECO and Peoples Gas, and the Lights On Tampa Committee have lent a hand in making the new lighting art project a lovely new feature to the skyline bridge vistas of downtown. When the installation is complete, nine bridges will be lighted — The Platt Street Bridge, the Brorein Street Bridge, the Tampa-Hillsborough Expressway Authority overpass, the Kennedy Boulevard Bridge and the CSX Railroad Bridge.

Last week, when artist Tracey Dear illuminated five Tampa bridges in a project titled Agua Luces, photographer Nicole Abbett — struck by inspiration and a surge in her wellspring of hometown pride — decided to embark on a weeklong project that involved working long sweaty hours outside by the Hillsborough River, shooting meticulously and editing images for a time lapse video called "City Lights" (embedded below).

Not only does the video capture the stunning views of downtown and the Hillsborough River but includes some shots of people along the bank, the UT rowing crew and weather changes that complete a picture of Tampa in the summer. Abbett's friends Jared Fager and Sean Birdsell helped her put the finishing touches on it.
