Do you feel scared when you get on a bicycle or enter a crosswalk in Tampa Bay? Join the club, and then join 2,000-3,000 people for a celebration of safety when Open Streets St. Pete returns to downtown for the fourth year.

Bayshore Dr. SE will be car-free from Al Lang Field, past the Dali Museum to Albert Whitted Park, and open to all forms of bicycle, pedestrian, skates, and other wheeled fun.

Food trucks, live music, and other family-friendly fun fills this day inspired by an open streets event born in Bogota, Colombia.

“Open Streets is excited to promote a safe coexistence of cars and people in Downtown St. Pete. It’s important that our growth continues to consider the experience that residents and visitors have as they inhabit our city,” committee chair, Cesar Morales said in a statement. “We are encouraged by the city’s focus on improving safety and access for all forms of transportation. By repurposing a section of road for car-free public use on the weekend, Open Streets serves to highlight how small changes such as protected bike lanes, sidewalks, bike-share, and park space, collectively have a huge impact on livability.”

Sun. Oct. 20, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Bayshore Drive, downtown St. Petersburg. openstreetsstpete.com.
