While writing and reading tend to be solitary acts, fans of both can gather at the Oxford Exchange Book Fair in Tampa on Thursday evening for a bit of socialization.

Over 30 local authors (see a list below) will interact with bookworms as they give readings, host writing workshops, and discuss pathways to publishing, all while browsing for books and sipping champagne.

While the OE Book Fair is geared towards adults (the Children’s Book Fair is on June 5), children’s books are welcome for the book drive. Participants can bring in gently used books suitable for Pre-K through 12th grade to donate to the Hillsborough Education Foundation’s Teaching Tools Store.

The event is free, but a RSVP is required. Parking is available at the OE lot for $10, while additional parking can be found at the lot off Magnolia Avenue.

And since you obviously want to keep flipping pages throughout the weekend, know that Saturday is Indie Bookstore Day, with celebrations happening across the Bay area in St. Petersburg (Tombolo Books) Lakeland (municipal book crawl), Safety Harbor (Portkey Books), Venice (Fable Books) and Winter Haven (Writer’s Block).

As our friends at Axios pointed out, more local bookstores to support include Mojo Books & Records in Tampa, Book + Bottle and Wilson’s Book World in St. Pete, Back in the Day Books in Dunedin and Lighthouse Books in Dade City
