The Trail of Tears wasn’t only over land —turns out, we ‘Muricans loaded up the Seminole on boats and tried to bend them to our will, too. Little known fact: Egmont Key, just off the coast of Fort De Soto, was a stopping-off point en route from South Florida to Oklahoma. Friday night, the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s chief Egmont Key archaeologist, Dave Scheidecker, will speak about what happened while the Seminole were held there, and what we can learn from the island’s history.
