Performing arts incubator The Mar St. Pete celebrates its first anniversary Sunday, Aug. 29 with a free street party and everyone’s invited. The Mar, located at 2309 Central Ave. in the Grand Central District, opened Sept. 1, 2020 so making it through the pandemic is definitely worthy of commemoration.

“Drawing on their 40 years of combined entertainment industry experience, owners Dave and Heather Hamar brought their dream of creating a community space to serve local artists to life in the middle of the most challenging economy of this century…,” a release said.

The celebration happens from 4 p.m.-9 p.m. with a ton of local vendors including Grit & Grind Design (handcrafted wooden flowers), Imagine Deeply by Nadia (resin, geode, and mixed media art), Catie Unthreaded (cross stitch and embroidery art), and Sunshine Chaos Designs (laser cut wall art). The Fat Chick food truck will serve comfort food like strawberry nachos, s’more quesadillas, and parmesan fries.

Performances—starting at 7 p.m.—include the Universal Rock School student band Oceanize, Hip Expressions dancers, and DiffChurch Band.

And though Mar stands for “Mistakes Are Required” can we also make it ‘Masks are required’ when out in this COVID-19 filled world?
