Comedians are lending a helping hand to a local. Well, more like lending punchlines, tags and off-color commentary.

A benefit show this week will help defray the medical expenses of Clark Brooks, a local comedian, author and all-around good guy who's spent most of 2019 in hospitals and rehab battling knee infections. There's a GoFundMe, of course, but the upcoming comedy show on Saturday night is a chance to show support and enjoy some laughs at the same time.

While it's a good cause, it's also an impressive lineup. The evening's talent is made up of locals who are established professionals in the Tampa Bay area. Steve Miller won Best Stand-Up Comedian at our most recent Best of the Bay awards. Sloan and John J. Murray are working pros who can be seen most weekends (unless they're headlining clubs out of town). There's more talent on the bill as well, which will make for a full night of quality stand-up, and improv group Big Ray's Rib Shack will also perform.

Comedians might be a little odd, but they're also a pretty generous group. When people need help, they're usually ready and willing to donate their time to a good cause. This is a chance to join them, laugh and do something positive for a member of the community on Saturday night.
