When you grow up in movie theaters, film is bound to have a profound impact on your life.

For Tampa artist Chris Preston, whose mom worked in a theater for his childhood and teenage years, movies manifest themselves in his art, and for “Dead Cinema II,” he’s literally going to bring that part of his past back from the dead.

The sequel to Preston’s “Dead Cinema” show in 2021 features all new works (he’s usually influenced by Dada, cubist and surrealist styles) featuring iconic movie scenes re-imagined in a macabre way.

And if you miss next week’s opening happening at Tampa’s Independent Bar & Cafe ( 5016 N Florida Ave.) on Thursday, Dec. 7, you can still catch the show and hear Preston spin records under the DJ Cub moniker a few days later on Dec. 9. Subscribe to Creative Loafing newsletters.
