Welcome to Night Vale comes to Tampa Theatre July 7

Radon Canyon: The view is literally breathtaking.

What are you doing July 7?

Feel like paying a visit to Night Vale?

If you're quick enough when tickets go on sale this Friday at noon, you're going to see Welcome to Night Vale at the Tampa Theatre.

If you're familiar with this peculiarly delicious podcast, you're already scanning to the end for ticket prices and how to buy ($27.50-$32.50, plus fees, at the Theatre box office or online at TampaTheatre.org). If you don't know about this podcast, just... just go here and listen, because there's no way to pack in to one short blog post all the things that make this adorably, hysterically weird.

The podcast "airs" twice a month; creators Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor styled it after community updates in a small town (think of it as the radio version of The Gabber Newspaper, if Gulfport were slightly more, ahem, eclectic). Night Vale is, after all, "A friendly desert community where the sun is hot, the moon is beautiful, and mysterious lights pass overhead while we all pretend to sleep."

Things you will hear in the podcast include things like, "Do not approach the dog park. Do not look for any period of time at the hooded figures" and also discussions how unfortunate it is that the waterfront lacks water, but community leaders think it's a good thing for the town nonetheless.

Since its inception in 2012, Welcome to Night Vale has been listened to over 8.5 million times, often racing ahead of other iTunes programs like This American Life and Radiolab. The podcast has no commercials; instead, the touring live show will fund the program.

Again, tickets go on sale Friday, March 18 at noon. Best of luck getting some.
