The structures that define Ybor City’s nearly 150-year history come alive again as part of a long-running tour that returns next month.

The Ybor City Museum Society announced its 12th annual “Buildings Alive! Ybor City Architecture Hop,” happening Feb. 29 from 5 p.m.- 9:30 p.m.

The district is imbued with a rich history beginning in 1880 as a small neighborhood of Cuban and Spanish immigrants which grew into a bustling cigar industry. It’s gone through numerous changes, and is on the cusp of another, but it’s building tell a lot of the story.

The Ybor City Architecture Hop begins with a send-off party at Cigar Worker’s Park, recently opened by the J.C. Newman Cigar Company which has been hand-rolling cigars in Ybor since 1910.

The tour then transports participants back in time, offering guided tours of historic buildings and transportation between them via trolley. Stops include Centro Asturiano, Empad Architecture and Design, La Benefica Española building and several others. Light bites and refreshments will be offered at each stop.

Tickets for The Ybor City Museum Society 12th annual Buildings Alive! Ybor City Architecture Hop on Feb. 29 are available now for $55 with discounts offered for students, military personnel, first responders and educators.
