Bourbon for dinner: Three Fat Tuesday-style recipes

If don't find yourself at a neighborhood crawfish boil or a restaurant that specializes in slinging Big Easy cuisine Tuesday evening, celebrate Mardi Gras in your home kitchen using three recipes CL retrieved from its archive.

We couldn't settle on dessert, though, so don't forget to pick up the King Cake.

Gumbo with a twist

A vegan-friendly take on a New Orleans classic, this lentil gumbo from former CL contributor Patrice Knezevic maintains the original dish's beloved French Quarter flavor, but loses the animal products.

A Cajun favorite

This recipe for blackened shrimp with corn maque choux looked too good to pass up. It incorporates ingredients like bell peppers, heavy cream and bacon (woohoo!), and encourages you to craft your own spice for the shrimp. Do it, do it.

Not just for the Derby

Alright, it's not a Sazerac. But mint julep cocktails are tasty, too. With a fine pile of NOLA-inspired eats and one of these in your hand, you're golden.
