Those who frequent the University area of Tampa will have a fresh dining concept to explore when the Bay area's first Chicken Salad Chick franchise opens its doors in summer.

In a 3,555-square-foot end-cap space at 2790 E. Fowler Ave., the restaurant will join the University Collection's other food joints near Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.

Fifteen kinds of chicken salad, incorporating ingredients like jalapenos, Fuji apples and nuts, are served up by the Alabama-based chain, founded by wife-and-husband team Stacy and Kevin Brown seven years ago.

There are Chicken Salad Chick sites around the Southeast, including three in Florida, where soups, deli sandwiches and desserts are also highlighted.

Brad and Tammy Cochran will head the Tampa franchise, which plans to feature an outdoor patio.
