Stone crab season—on now and through May 1—is here, and there are a couple local fests focusing on the delicious crustacean this weekend, Friday, Oct. 22-Sunday, Oct. 24.
Cooters 28th Annual Crab Fest, with stone and snow crab specials, plus live music. The Clearwater Beach restaurant, at 423 Poinsettia Ave., will also have commemorative shirts for sale. Pretty much the same deal on the other side of the island at Palm Pavillion's Stone Crab Weekend located at 10 Bay Esplanade.
All six locations of Key West-style chain Frenchy’s have Stone Crab Weekend in store with medium, large and jumbo claws offered. If you’re new to the game, it’s best to use a mallet, or the back of a knife, to crack them open—but be careful, the broken shells get sharp.
All restaurants are operating with regular hours, and are suggesting you call to check on availability before you go. And don’t forget your mask!
