The buzz around foreign coffee shops making their way to Tampa Bay isn't scaring off local chains like Kahwa and Blind Tiger from expanding their own reach. In January, Kahwa, which already has 15 shops, announced four new locations.
Last month, the first of four made its debut at the Tampa Airport Marriott and celebrated by taking espresso shots from a Kahwa shotski with mayor Jane Castor. And now we know more about Kahwa's newest St. Petersburg location.
A press release says the newest shop will be 6623 4th St. N. in St. Petersburg and made from three three refurbished shipping containers; it'll still serve Kahwa classics like espresso and ham and cheese croissants.

“We hope this new concept will inspire the community to look into ways of reducing their carbon footprint.” Raphael Perrier, co-owner of Kahwa Coffee, said, touting the cost-effective containers' eco-friendliness. "This new shop is set to offer up outdoor seating for walk-up customers and drive-thru service."
The chain already has five locations sprinkled throughout the 'Burg, but this joint will be on the Fourth Street strip near three Starbucks locations reside and St. Pete Bagel Co. Sounds like a caffeine turf war is on the horizon. How much longer until Tampa Bay is literally swimming in cold brew?
The new shipping container location is expected to open mid to late summer 2020, according to the release, and will fill approximately 20 jobs.
