✔️ David Ryan Harris w/Kristopher James There was a time when a Bay area set from Los Angeles singer-songwriter (and John Mayer mentor) David Ryan Harris was an oddity. Thanks to Ybor City listening room The Attic, those days are long gone. The 50-year-old crooner hits The Attic less than a year after his October 2017 set and just months after a planned springtime recording session back home. Not sure if we’ll hear any of that “California record” Harris was talking about recording when CL interviewed him last fall, but anything he sings on Saturday will sound more than fine to us. ✔️ Demo w/Permanent Makeup/Alexander & The Grapes Robin Joiner’s name and voice may be familiar to longtime travelers of the Florida rock landscape, but her new band Demo is different, more collaborative and less calculated, from Dear + Glorious Physician. Joiner credits the unique styes and diverse backgrounds of her bandmates — bassist Steven Spier, guitarist/vocalist (and NobFest organizer) Andrew Virga, guitarist Travis Whitton and drummer Dru Martin — when explaining how each member’s collective influences (Joy Division, Sonic Youth, The Wipers) contribute to Demo’s output. “Red Light,” a highlight from the band’s self-titled debut on Tampa’s New Granada Records, thoughtfully explores the traditional roles of feminine and masculine sexuality. “It’s also a nod to this rift in the feminist movement between those who think that a woman shouldn’t seek male attention and those who believe that they should be accepted as feminists even though they behave or dress in a hypersexual way to attract male attention,” Joiner explained.
