✔️ David Ryan Harris w/Kristopher James There was a time when a Bay area set from Los Angeles singer-songwriter (and John Mayer mentor) David Ryan Harris was an oddity. Thanks to Ybor City listening room The Attic, those days are long gone. The 50-year-old crooner hits The Attic less than a year after his October 2017 set and just months after a planned springtime recording session back home. Not sure if we’ll hear any of that “California record” Harris was talking about recording when CL interviewed him last fall, but anything he sings on Saturday will sound more than fine to us. Visit cltampa.com/music to get details on the late-night house and techno music happening at The Attic directly after this show. (The Attic at Brothers Brewing, Ybor City) INFO
Under The Covers w/Lesa S Band/Lassyu/El Coyote/Above Snakes/Sol and Grave/The Time Framed The Girls Rock Camp benefit events have been a highlight of the live music calendar (check out the NamasBey yoga event at Cage Brewing), and this one finds local outfits paying tribute to bands like Portishead, Hole, Joan Jett and more. (Fubar, St. Petersburg) INFO
✔️ Woolly Bushmen The spirit of Jerry Lee Lewis (well, not the child-molestor vibes) lives in the Woolly Bushmen, and seeing this wild, organ-driven, Orlando outfit on Treasure Island was a treat we weren’t expecting to get this summer. Press play on the trio’s rowdy and rousing 2017 album, ARDUINO, by heading to cltampa.com/music. (Ka`Tiki, Treasure Island) INFO
✔️ Demo w/Permanent Makeup/Alexander & The Grapes Robin Joiner’s name and voice may be familiar to longtime travelers of the Florida rock landscape, but her new band Demo is different, more collaborative and less calculated, from Dear + Glorious Physician. Joiner credits the unique styes and diverse backgrounds of her bandmates — bassist Steven Spier, guitarist/vocalist (and NobFest organizer) Andrew Virga, guitarist Travis Whitton and drummer Dru Martin — when explaining how each member’s collective influences (Joy Division, Sonic Youth, The Wipers) contribute to Demo’s output. “Red Light,” a highlight from the band’s self-titled debut on Tampa’s New Granada Records, thoughtfully explores the traditional roles of feminine and masculine sexuality. “It’s also a nod to this rift in the feminist movement between those who think that a woman shouldn’t seek male attention and those who believe that they should be accepted as feminists even though they behave or dress in a hypersexual way to attract male attention,” Joiner explained. Demo will be joined by two CL favorites — punk trio Permanent Makeup and Bay area indie-rock powerhouse Alexander & The Grapes — at this one. (Microgroove, Tampa) INFO
Tampa Music Conference w/Thrift Store Revolution/Courtney Shilo/Mely Marie/Keezie Free/Jus HenryTMC is one of the longest-running homegrown Bay area summits, and on Saturday it welcomes registrants to hear from panelists with expertise in all aspects of the biz and then check out performances from unheard talent that organizers think will make a splash in the near future. Rock sounds blended with Latin, punk and jazz (Thrift Store Revolution), R&B (Courtney Shilo), Caribbean-flavored pop (Mely Marie) and hip-hop (Keezie Free, Jus Henry) all show up in 2018’s lineup. (Friday Morning Musicale, Tampa) INFO
✔️ Have Gun, Will Travel w/Garrett Klahn/Knowmatic Tribe DJs Have Gun, Will Travel and Texas is the Reason frontman Garrett Klahn seem to have become pretty good buddies over the last few years (in 2017, Klahn joined the Bradenton Americana heros onstage at Gasparilla Music Festival). This one finds the pairing making a debut at The Bends in St. Petersburg for a free show. (The Bends, St. Petersburg) INFO
✔️ Florida Rules Fest w/Reveal Renew For one day only (1 p.m. doors and last band on at 10 p.m.), more than two dozen Sunshine State punk, pop and hardcore outfits — including CL favorites like the Blonde Tongues, Shurwood and Lipschitz — will head to The Noise Box, where Reveal Renew, a raw and revered Tampa hadcore band that released two EPs (a 2012 self-titled and 2014’s Phrases for the Living) before breaking up, reunites to close out the show. (The Noise Box, Brandon) INFO
✔️ '80s Prom Teen Wolf Edition w/Wolf-Face/The Handsome Scoundrels/DJ Cub Wolf-Face staged a successful Valentine’s Dance in St. Pete earlier this year, but this show finds the ante being upped by the fact that The Bricks has been throwing an outrageous '80s prom for the last three years. Alabama pop-punk trio The Handsome Scoundrels opens the show, DJ Cub spins '80s jams in between and a killer prize awaits whoever gets crowned king and queen for being the best-dressed. Tampa punk figurehead Dave Decker takes life for granite in "Horizon 2 Charlie" acoustic video
Sandspur City w/Old Vices/Crash Mitchell "'Horizon 2 Charlie' is a song I wrote in jail and it will be a new Sandspur City song but I did a session for it and recorded it in the granite shop I manage and had my little dog and my grammas rocking chair," Decker said, adding that the simple life gives him peace. "It’s like ‘I took life for granite and now granite feeds my life with sustenance.'" (The Hub Bar, Tampa) INFO
✔️ Lector Social Club Grand Opening (Night Two) w/Melissa & Joe Grady/Acho Brother On the second night of its grand opening weekend, a new social club and natural wine store brings in Melissa & Joe Grady (the cellist and drummer of the Best of the Bay-winning Same Day Delivery Orchestra) to provide sounds in the afternoon before one of Tampa’s most beloved world-music acts — Acho Brother — sits down to sing for the evening crowd. Two wine tastings are scheduled throughout the day, and more info is available via facebook.com/lectorsocialclub. (Lector Social Club: Lit & Natty Wine, Tampa) INFO
Vallam w/Penny Grune Fae/Gefilte Fist/her sharpness/Vasectomy Party/Dylan Houser/Jonas Van den Bossche/BONGUS/Apoc Siren Tampa’s In-Between House hosts a wide variety of Florida noise artists for this on-the-down-low show that starts early enough to wrap up before the neighbors start to wonder what’s going on. You’re gonna have to ask someone about the whereabouts of this one, but if you’re into experimental, sometimes abrasive, sounds, then it’s well worth the effort. (The In-Between House, Tampa) INFO
