Vince Clarke and Andy Bell are bringing Erasure to St. Petersburg’s Mahaffey Theater on Jan. 16, 2022.

Not much screams “80’s synth pop” more than Clarke and Bell. In the mid-’80s, Clarke—having made a name for himself in the early years of Depeche Mode, as well as Yazoo, put out an ad in a newspaper scouting out vocalists. After receiving a few dozen demo tapes in the mail, Bell—a LGBTQ+ icon-to-be Bell—was Clarke’z selection, thus Erasure was born.

The band isn’t like others from the 80s, in which members would break up, on and off, and eventually resort to living off of its older tunes on the road, not getting very creative in the studio. Erasure has 18 albums under its belt—the most recent being last year’s The Neon.

Whether or not the guys recorded their latest in lockdown, you now have a chance to hear those new songs live. This week, the British duo that gave you “Chains of Love” announced its first, full run of shows since 2018’s World Be Gone tour, which also stopped at Mahaffey. One of the first three dates of Erasure’s new tour supporting The Neon has been set for January 16, over at Mahaffey Theater—located right across from the Dalí Museum.

Other Florida stops on Erasure’s 2022 tour include Orlando (Jan. 15 at Dr. Phillips Center) and Miami Beach (Jan. 14 at the Fillmore). Tickets to see Erasure at Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, Florida on Jan. 16, 2022 go on sale Friday, June 25 at noon.
