There was already a music festival set to happen at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park on April 6 (South of Southern, which had begun the permitting process before someone realized that the NCAA wanted to use the park on the same day), but we’re not sure how all of that shadiness worked out, so we’ll just report this bit of news related to the Women’s Final Four tournament happening in downtown Tampa next weekend.
Gavin DeGraw, a pop pianist who once played his hit 2005 single “Follow Through” on a wedding episode of ABC’s hit reality show The Bachelor, has been booked to play a free concert at The Curt on April 6 (full disclosure: this writer used to be a huge fan of DeGraw and is still addicted to The Bachelor). DeGraw, 42, hasn’t released an album since 2016’s Something Worth Saving and most recently played the park in 2017 when he opened for Usher during concerts thrown as part of the BCS National Football Championship Game.
The show is happening as part of the tournament’s Super Saturday activities, which a press release says will also provide a full evening of fan-friendly entertainment. The free concert and party is also just one piece of a full weekend of activities, which include a free “Tourney Town” fan expo at Tampa Convention Center (April 5-7) and Sunday’s “Final Four Bounce” which will feature 2,000 youth dribbling their way along the Tampa Riverwalk and into Tourney Town.
Doors for the Super Saturday party open at 5:30 p.m. EDT. No telling if DeGraw will play any country songs at the shindig, but you can watch the bomb-ass Bachelor performance below. More information is available via ncaa.com.
