If you were a certain age and owned a skateboard in the late-’80s, then you probably have fond memories of melodic punk and hardcore band Slap of Reality, which shared stages with some of the genre’s most beloved bands (Fugazi, Jawbox, Samiam and even the Goo Goo Dolls). The mid-’90s were a stagnant time for the Bay area outfit, but the band almost made it to a major label in ‘96 before disbanding for a while.

The guys — including drummer Rob Sexton, who owns St. Petersburg’s Planet Retro Records — are back, however, and on Saturday they give a new generation of punks (and the older peeps) a chance to celebrate a new seven-inch, “Gaslight,” which features Chris Wollard of Hot Water Music and The Draft on guest vocals.

Slap of Reality “Gaslight” 7” release w/Old Vices/Low Season. Sat. Nov. 30,  8 p.m. $5. VFW Post 39, St. Petersburg. INFO.
