The Safety Harbor Songfest features a rather diverse and intriguing lineup in its third year, with more than 20 acts playing two stages situated at the city’s waterfront park. Saturday finds Cheap Trick frontman Robin Zander rolling solo as he assumes main stage headlining duties with a set of upbeat rock and power pop joined by son Robin Taylor on lead guitar. He’s preceded by Chicago-spawned jazz-hued harmonica-blowing bluesman Otis Taylor. The Vespers, Shook Twins, Honeyhoney, SHEL and Joe Craven also perform on Saturday, while the smaller marina stage fires off sets by Dan Rodriguez, Daphne Willis, Chris Gelbuda and Matt The Electrician, with a highlight in gently melodic multi-instrumental duo Tall Heights, their combo of vocal harmonies and acoustic instrumentals rather reminiscent of Bon Iver.

Shawn Mullins closes Sunday in a storm of folk rock alternative sounds, ushered in with a set by the country twang of Love and Theft; Randall Bramblett, Anne Harris and David Jacobs Strain round out Sunday’s main stage entertainment. The finely-wrought instrumental roots compositions of cellist/singer-songwriter Ben Sollee prove a Sunday marina stage highlight, with additional sets by Billy Strings and The Mastersons. On both days, the marina stage opens with a ‘Songwriters in the Round’ showcase that spotlights three local artists — Connor Zwetsch, Dean Johanesen and Rebekah Pulley on Saturday; Roy Schneider, Geri X and J Klein on Sunday. Food trucks and vendors, roving performers, kite demos, and all manner of family-friendly activities and visual art displays complete Songfest, with proceeds to support the Safety Harbor Arts and Music Center.
