Some kids are just enamored with the past. That seems to be the case with Tampa rock trio Sick Hot, which decided to visit Tampa venues long gone in a new video for “Lost and Forever Gone.”
“We did a ton of research and managed to find old concert posters and the addresses to where these places used to be,” the band — whose members are all under the age of 20 — told CL. “We love Tampa Bay's music history — and we wanted to go see all of these old clubs.”
Volley Club, London Victory Club and ML Chasers are among the shuttered venues Sick Hot visits during its drive in an old Camaro.
The clip comes from Sick Hot’s House of Delight EP, which was produced by Bay area rock-scene mainstay Shawn Kyle (Beauvilles, Florida Kilos, Heavy Metals, The Laurel Canyon). The collective started planning the three-song effort in August before tracking drums at Shinebox in Carrollwood and laying down vocals at Kyle’s Seminole Heights home studio, which is kind of like a gearhead treasure chest — especially for young up-and-comers. Two more behind-the-scenes giants of the local scene, Jason Cowan and Frank Calcaterra, handled mixing and mastering, respectively.
