Mountain Goats devotees are excellent examples of indie-rock fandom done right, and disciples of frontman John Darnielle’s hyper-literate style of storytelling even have a podcast about their obsession (I Only Listen to the Mountain Goats, which is a collaboration between the über-popular Night Vale Presents, the band and Merge Records). The show finds Joseph Fink, creator of Welcome to Night Vale and Alice Isn’t Dead, in conversation with Darnielle, and Season One explores the stories behind the Mountain Goats’ album All Hail West Texas. Expect a healthy, possibly sold-out crowd when Mountain Goats plays Ybor City in support of a 2017 album, Goths. North Carolina songwriter Al Riggs — touring behind The Complete Works of Sister Viktorine, a batch of 2014 songs he wrote during a rough patch of his life — opens the show.
Mountain Goats w/Al Riggs. Sat. Sept. 1, 7 p.m. Orpheum, 1915 E. 7th Ave., Ybor City. SOLD OUT.
