Long Beach Dub Allstars was supposed to christen a renovated State Theatre during the band’s July 18 show, but it seems as if the historic venue still isn’t ready.
The concert has been moved to Jannus Live, and tickets now start at just $5.
News of the 8,604 square-foot venue going up for sale started to circulate last March, just months after the previous owners worked to address multiple fire code violations including outdated sprinkler and alarm systems, subpar handrails, emergency lights, doors and more.
The property went under contract in June, and officially sold for $2.1 million to a family trust run by St. Petersburg real estate broker Kevin Chadwick.
At the time, Chadwick said that he had plans to invest up to an additional $1 million to make safety and cosmetic upgrades en route to restoring the building to the historic landmark it once was. He said that the building should have a new facade and new marquee before the year was over and that the spring should see interior renovations plus three new bars.
CL has reached out to Chadwick for additional comment on the progress of the renovation. Get more information on the show with The Aggrolites and Mike Pinto via jannuslive.com.
