Lots happening this Sat., Nov. 28. I've put it all together in one place for your planning convenience below.
Brother Cephus Album Release Party We’ve been fans of Brother Cephus for a while now; we even gave the siblings-led indie rock outfit a Best of the Bay award this year, lauding Gabe and Seth Davis’ high quality style and non-traditional means of releasing music. The five-track Noise EP is the next recording to be unleashed, its title track full of warped twangy guitars and urgent vocals lashing outs against the distractions that keeps us anesthetized (“stop all that damn noise”). The release party features support from New Granada Records-repped acts Alexander & the Grapes, MrEnc and Fistful, the latter project piloted by Cephus-kin Joel Davis. (New World Brewery, Ybor City)
Don’t Stop St. Petersburg Shifting from mid-October to the last weekend in November and moving down slightly from the 600 Block to the Grand Central District, the third annual Don’t Stop St. Petersburg music fest is stirring up no small bit of excitement with its promise of a vibrant new setting and cooler conditions, with a focus on public spaces via the four indoor and outdoor stages, more than 40 local and Florida regional artists represented, and a special nod to Small Business Saturday via the local vendors invited to line the streets. Doyle The namesake of the band, guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, learned to play from Glen Danzig and Jerry Only when he was a roadie, then performed with various incarnations of The Misfits from 1980 to 1999. Doyle plies a seething and churning mix of heavy and groove metal spiked with the expected horror punk tropes and has one album out, Abominator, which he’s still touring behind with drumming support from Black Flag’s Brandon Pertzborn. (State Theatre, St. Petersburg)
Cedric Gervais A French-born, Miami-based house music DJ/producer with a Grammy to his credit and multi-platinum earnings for his single remix of Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness.” His fresh new single "Love Again" with singer-songwriter Ali Tamposi finds her pop hooks soaring over big sparkling and whirring washes of synths and carried on big buoyant dance beats. (Amphitheater, Ybor City)
Dash Rip Rock Roots rock trio Dash Rip Rock delivers sounds dredged from the Louisiana swamplands and coated in punk-kicking grease and rockabilly twang. From guitar ripping country bite of “Stickin’ to the Woods” (the track that opens latest album Wrongheaded) to the leery raging, guitar sci-fi grinding of “Swamp Pigs” (which closes it), the trio also makes sure to keep their interests and pursuits strictly rural and mostly weird. (Skipper's Smokehouse, Tampa)
Bangarang Album Release Show Bangarang marries combustible elements of hip hop with ‘90s-vibing alt rock, doses it with light reggae shades, and delivers the explosive results with full instrumental power as led by the vocal and lyrical leadership of Senyo Fugar and guitar wailing prowess of Tyson Gordon. The six-piece celebrates the completion of eight-track debut Galaxy Dust with a free release party on this night, performing the LP in its entirety following warm-up sets from several other super solid local acts – Lions After Dark, Rising Down, Oxford Noland and GreyMarket. (Red Star Rock Bar, Tampa)
