THURSDAY, OCTOBER 7
Depending on the night you see him, legendary troubadour Bob Dylan is either a musical master or a mess. But while his live shows might suffer from the difficulties of age and enthusiasm, his capabilities as an artist have never been in question and theres no denying his wide-ranging influence and talents. This show has definite sell-out potential. 8 p.m., USF Sun Dome, Tampa, $60.
Rock the Park w/Have Gun, Will Travel/Poetry n' Lotion/Kevin McGowan The free music-on-the-waterfront-park series continues with the old timey Americana sizzle of Have Gun, Will Travel, the prog-jazz-vintage tasty fusion of Poetry n Lotion, and the acoustic folk ramble of singer-songwriter Kevin McGowan. 6:30-9 p.m., Curtis Hixon Park, downtown Tampa, free admission.
Flavor of Jazz V w/Richard Elliot [right] The fifth annual food and music fundraiser which supports jazz-centric programs offered via the Marcia P. Hoffman Performing Arts Institute and Clearwater Jazz Holiday spotlights more than 20 local eateries during a pre-concert tasting. The Ruth Eckerd Hall/CJH Youth Band kicks off the music, with smooth jazz sax player Richard Elliot and his band rounding out the evening. 6 p.m. tasting, 7:30 p.m. show, Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater, $48.
w/Nappy Roots The rock, hip hop and country-fused sound of Georgia-based Rehab is marked by the vocal stylings of frontman Danny "Boone" Alexander, who delivers lyrics in a rusty croon or sing-song rhyme. The band is on the road promoting their seventh and latest album, Welcome Home. Joining them is multi-platinum Southern alt rap outfit Nappy Roots (Awnaw), also pimping a new album, The Pursuit Of Nappyness, their fourth. 6 p.m. doors, Jannus Live, St. Petersburg, $12 in advance/$15 dos.
Mushroomhead w/Final Trigger/Koheleth & Stygian/Psychotic Matinee/Anurism/Shutang Mushroomheads international headlining tour invades St. Pete with its notoriously maniacal industrial alt-metal and a new Megaforce Records release, Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children. 7 p.m. doors, State Theatre, St. Petersburg, $15 (all ages).
