Hot Dog Party XI w/Synergy In A Cup/Loose Talk/Bangarang/Fre$h P/The Tattered Saints/Sunset Sundays DJs Tampa Bay’s original hot dog party passed the decade mark last year, and it’s not slowing down as it approaches twelve-pack status. The wiener-eating competition is getting a little too fierce (people are starting to travel from out of town to compete for a championship belt that grows more elaborate every year), and the bands continue to be ridiculously high energy. Loose Talk (featuring former members of Anberlin) are in the heart of the lineup, but we’re a little giddy about the possibility of Tampa emcee Fre$h P joining forces with crunktacular funk music orchestra Synergy In A Cup. There was a Jheri curl wig and ruffled men’s blouse involved the last time we saw Fre$h and Synergy frontman JRoc Jones onstage together, so we’re expecting nothing less than madness at what’s become one of the debauched and enjoyable Fourth of July parties in the area. Navin Ave. w/Swamp Rats/Nick Hues Just in case you forgot how much the CL edit staff approves of this Tampa rock outfit, then revisit last year’s Best of the Bay issue where managing online editor Scott Harrell praised the band’s strong songwriting and its ability to wield “fuzzy, catchy indie tunes that recall the glory days of female-led college rock,” like some kind of mighty sword.
