Froth w/The Venus/DRUG You deserve to get lost in Froth. The Los Angeles quartet started out as a joke, and half the group (made up of JooJoo guitarist Ashworth, bassist Jeremy Katz, drummer Cameron Allen and guitarist Nick Ventura) didn’t even know how to play an instrument, but now people (including themselves) are taking their music pretty seriously. A new LP — Outside (briefly), released in February — takes a step away from the noise and psych pop of previous material and trades it in for a more spacious, moody sound that finds a once guitar driven band now assisted by cello, synth and drum machines. Florida Orchestra Pops: Singin’ and Swingin’ — A Century of Ella w/Carmen Bradford The Florida Orchestra’s season shifts gears for this pop music presentation celebrating the one and only, inimitable Ella Fitzgerald. Grammy winning jazz vocalist Carmen Bradford will have the tough task of manning the mic, but she’s probably better equipped than anyone thanks to a fantastic pedigree (composer/trumpeter Bobby Bradford, vocalist/composer Melba Joyce) and the fact that she was the vocalist in Count Basie’s band for nine years (the late pianist and bandleader died in Hollywood, Florida over two decades ago). This run of shows kicks off on Friday in Tampa and hits St. Pete and Clearwater over the next two days. (Ferguson Hall at David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts, Tampa) INFO

Inkblot EP Release w/Extra Celestial/The Infinite Eights/Babyblu Jim Chambers’ Music Box keeps pushing their student bands to publish music, and the train rolls along with a new song by rock quartet Inkblot, who are sharing a EP, Spectrum. The title track has a little bit of a Weezer vibe, but the band — vocalist Sydney Beil, multi instrumentalist Jordan Vivero, bassist Declan Carey and Matthew Kosto on drums — says they’re more influenced by bands like Coin, The 1975 and Panic! At The Disco. (Orpheum, Ybor City) INFO
