Album review: Good Old War, Come Back As Rain

The third and latest release by Pennsylvania boys Keith Goodwin, Daniel Schwartz and Tim Arnold (the band's name comes from the last names of the three members) is a lovely collection of shimmering country folk-pop songs that traverse the minor battlegrounds of love, where some serious damage can be done. Amid Come Back As Rain's regrets and disappointments, gently voiced singer Goodwin tries to look on the bright side over lush and sparkly guitars and solid beats. He seems to be having conversations with his boo throughout the album, hoping she'll gain perspective. He is starry-eyed and she stares at the ground. The tune "Amazing Eyes" captures it all best: "You have amazing eyes. The right one's suspicious and the left one wants my love. ... You're a little bit broken and I'm a little bit broken but when we put ourselves together, oh my." (Out March 6 via Sargent House)
