Do This: Edgar Allan Poe Birthday Bash

A night of experimental music and more in honor of the master of the macabre.

$5, 8 p.m. Sat., Jan. 16
The Venture Compound, 2621 Fairfield Ave. S., St. Petersburg.

January 19 marks the birthdate of Edgar Allan Poe, the original Gothic master of the unsettling, but fans of the author among Tampa Bay’s avant-weird scene are getting the party started a few days early with their fourth annual Edgar Allan Poe Birthday Bash.

Held at St. Pete’s home of arts and music events raucous and envelope-pushy, The Venture Compound, this year’s shindig offers a wealth of experimental music including venture compound, experimental music, whitey alabastard, shifted grimm, DEA & Saint, Direwood, Shifted Grimm and a special party-closing set from Whitey Alabastard (aka Nick Boutwell), among others. The event’s Facebook page also mentions “a short theater piece by a dense production,” so, you know — be afraid. Be very afraid.
