The group restoring downtown St. Petersburg live music venue State Theatre has given it a new name: Floridian Social Club.

The news arrived in a press release on Monday morning, along with a schnazzy Instagram sizzle reel.

Creative Loafing Tampa Bay reached out to Floridian Social Club reps to see if any new concerts have been booked. The new moniker comes two months after outlets reported that the historic venue could reopen next month.

But that was before the coronavirus pandemic, and Operating Principle Kevin Chadwick is still saying that the timeline on opening the now 800-capacity, 200-seat venue isn’t as important as the result .

In March 2018, after State Theatre saw its capacity reduced by fire officials, the 8,604 square-foot building went on sale for $1.9 million. Three months later, the venue went under contract, and it officially sold to Chadwick for $2.1 million approximately 10 days later.

On Wednesday, Creative Loafing Tampa Bay got a chance to talk with Chadwick. Look for a follow up post next week.
