Listen: Cloud Nothings, "I'm Not Part of Me"

Cloud Nothings return with a track off forthcoming LP, Here and Nowhere Else out on April 1.

Preferred backing band to Steve Albini's ferocious online Scrabble habit, Cloud Nothings dropped one of their newest tracks, "I’m Not Part of Me," earlier this week, which will on a forthcoming LP, Here and Nowhere Else, due out on April 1. Give it a listen after the jump…

Cloud Nothings’ last full-length, 2012’s Attack On Memory, was a melodious onslaught of punk ferocity that felt dated in the best way possible, hearkening back to 1990’s post-whatever outfits like Fugazi and Sunny Day Real Estate, but maintaining a sense of youthful fuck-all-this-ness that was hard not to love.

Premiered on SoundCloud early Monday, “I’m Not Part of Me” finds the Nothings in a cheerful sonic state that, in all of it’s simple glory, makes for a pretty rich listening experience. The drums pummel with laser-precise fills while overdriven power chords bounce at breakneck speed just below Dylan Baldi’s perfectly imperfect congested delivery. It all goes full-force in a chorus (or pre-chorus?) that’ll surely make for some great, unintelligible sing-alongs live.

It’s straightforward, it’s catchy, and it’s a novel leap from where they left off in Attack on Memory. Definitely a worthy listen if you're a fan of the Warped Tour before it got shitty, the original Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtrack, or thinking about your wasted youth as you barely recognize the face staring back at you in the reflection of a locally-sourced vegan carmel latte.
