Live music radar: Matt Woods and Pete Stein

Tennessee and Colorado join hands to send us a couple of their top country/Americana crooners to perform at two free weekday shows taking place on either side of the Bay over the next two days.

Knoxville musician Matt Woods — whose 2013 single “Deadman’s Blues” was named Saving Country Music’s 2013 Song of the Year — and Steamboat Springs-by-way-of Brightwood, Va.’s Pete Stein (formerly the frontman of late group Truckstop Coffee) are cut from the same cloth, both Ninebullets.net faves and regularly featured on WMNF’s Nine Bullets Radio (Saturdays, 2-4 p.m.). (More info plus media featuring both artists after the jump...)

Woods and Stein play together frequently (as on this Florida tour), and have have been known to pair up live on stage for the odd duets when they do. You can see both men perform full (stripped-down) sets followed by some live collabs on both nights they roll through town — today (Wed., Jan. 15), 7 to 9 p.m., at New World Brewery in Ybor City, and tomorrow (Thurs., Jan. 16, 8:30-11 p.m.), at Ale and the Witch in St. Petersburg; both shows are free.
