“Silverada” isn’t just the name of Mike and the Moonpies’ upcoming album—it’s also the Americana quintet’s new moniker. Frontman Mike Harmeier wrote the new album, out June 28, in his backyard as a departure from his band playing the same set every gig.

He cites sci-fi selections, astronomy texts, and even some of Jeff Tweedy’s songwriting books (which every songwriter in the world needs to pick up) as his inspiration.

Silverada's first two singles “Anywhere But Here” and “Wallflower” are definitely a change in direction from releases past, and in terms of its sound, could actually be confused with material from Jakob Dylan and the, err, Wallflowers.

Tickets to see Silverada play Tampa’s Skipper’s Smokehouse on Saturday, March 30 are still available and start at $20.
