New music: Paramore, Brand New Eyes out today

The first couple of songs are really introspective and sad, but as you keep listening [image-1]you can almost feel Hayley's breakthrough. I love it. She really put her heart and soul into this album. Not to mention her absolutely phenominal vocals. I can't get rid of these goose bumps. "Playing God" is one of my new favorites. The lyrics are so clever and mix perfectly with the melody. Plus, it's about an issue everyone deals with: judgment. Especially for someone like Hayley, who is constantly in the spot light. They band has very strong beliefs and I love that they aren't scared to share them, whether through their music or on stage.

Paramore spent the summer touring with No Doubt (possibly where all of the punk influence came from), to say goodbye to Riot! and introduce a new chapter into their lives. When they came to Tampa, I was there waiting. Energetic and spunky Hayley blew my mind with her perfect vocals while simultaneously running and jumping all over the stage. I don't know how she does it. I have seen them in concert about 6 times since 2006 and I remember something different about every show

And guess what? They're coming back! Unfortunately not to Tampa, but I don't mind making the 90-minute drive to Orlando to see these guys. Mark your calenders: October 26 at House of Blues in Orlando. And don't forget to pick up your own copy of Brand New Eyes today.

I almost pee'd my pants when I got the new Paramore CD, Brand New Eyes, in the mail five days before it actually came out. It was literally the highlight of my week. Is that pathetic? I frantically ripped open the package, popped the CD into my computer, and turned it up as loud as it could go. I soon found that this new album would be a kind of therapy session for me. I went through a lot of the same things that lead singer Hayley Williams went through while writing Brand New Eyes, and it's very easy to feel the emotion she is trying to put across.

The first thing I noticed about the music while listening was the greater influence of punk rock on some of the songs. These kids have definitely grown up since their freshman album, All We Know is Falling. The music is more complex, maybe because of the new guitarist Tyler York. The energy is insane. Drummer Zac Farro really knows his shit. I can' stop tapping my foot, and I have the strange urge to band my head. It's nice to get a break from the crazy fast music and enjoy the softer ballads too. Josh Farro strums his acoustic guitar with conviction and manages to throw whimsical riffs into the mix. It's so hard to believe how old this band is, most of them under 21.
