Perennially BOTB-winning New Granada Records has been in the midst of a releasing spree leading up to its 20-year anniversary celebration this week, and the final and most exciting music to drop comes from the Tampa-based label’s earliest act and a beloved local emo outfit that reunites to play the anniversary kick-off on Christmas night: Pohgoh.
“Claude Rains” is streaming now and finds the band rejoined by original singer Kobi Finley, who went on two tours and played on three 7” releases with the band.
Pohgoh’s first new music in 17 years, “Claude Rains,” finds the band rejoined by original singer Kobi Finley, and was written and arranged a few decades ago before finally being recorded after their last 2009 reunion celebrating New Granada's 15th anniversary. The three-song EP marks the first time that all five members of the band — including Rec Center's Susie Ulrey Richardson, who provides backing vocal and harmonies — are on record together.
Check out the track below; the physical release is pressed on hand-cut, 10” clear vinyl limited to 20 copies that will only available at Pohgoh’s reunion show. "Pohgoh is our flagship band and obviously holds something special for me, Susie, Matt, Brad and Kobi," label head Keith Ulrey told CL. "People still talk about Pohgoh, we still sell Pohgoh CDs to this day. I just mailed another shipment to my Japanese distributor two weeks ago."
Pohgoh’s Thursday night reunion is supported by Atlantic Oceans and Permanent Makeup, and proves the highlight of New Granada’s three-night takeover of Ybor live music stronghold New World Brewery. The Friday show features Alexander & The Grapes, Tracy Shedd, and Rec Center, with the special late addition of Candy Bars, which plays a short mini set. Saturday's festivities conclude with Sunbears! and DieAlps! plus acoustic sets from The Pauses and Alameda’s Stirling Myles.
The shows are 18 and up, with $8 admission per night. Three-night passes are available for $16 by clicking here. New World Brewery is located at 1313 E. 8th Ave. in Ybor City.
