Tales of Highways & Low Roads CD Release Show

By leilani Polk

With its usual thoughtful and sophisticated ear, the nonprofit Bay Area Arts & Music Organization has put together the fifth and latest installment of its loosely thematic compilation series that spotlights the region's amazing array of musical talent. Tales of Highways & Low Roads is a genre-spanning 20-track road trip with definite Southern-fried appeal. Highlights include the slide guitar-drenched retro psyche/alt-country melodies of "The Walk" by Alexander & the Grapes; "Back in Time," a lovely, rootsy never-before-released duet featuring Rebekah Pulley and Ronny Elliot; and the ominous fast-paced rockabilly cheekiness of "Three Months in the Sand" by Sarge & the Aeromen. Fourteen of the 20 featured artists perform at the release show, with proceeds from admission and CD sales to benefit BAAMO's continued efforts to expose Tampa Bay area music and art to a wider audience.

Schedule: Unpainted Souls (6 p.m.), Ronny Elliott (6:30 p.m.), Bud Buckley (7 p.m.), The Woeful Ones (7:30 p.m.), Sons of Hippies (8 p.m.), The Briar Hill Band (8:30 p.m.), Experimental Pilot (9 p.m.), Will Quinlan (9:30 p.m.), Rebekah Pulley & the Reluctant Prophets (10 p.m.), Ricky Wilcox (10:30 p.m.), Have Gun, Will Travel (11 p.m.), Alexander & The Grapes (11:30 p.m.), The Human Condition (midnight), Sarge & the Aeroman (12:30 a.m.).

Details: Sat., April 30, 5 p.m. doors, New World Brewery, Ybor City, $10 admission includes copy of the CD or a download card (ages 21+).
