This Sunday in live music: Vinyl Theatre, Underhill Family Orchestra, DJ Soul & more

Music happening this Sun., July 12

A look at some music happening this Sun., July 12.

Vinyl Theatre with Machineheart, Denim Blue, Miclain Keith Milwaukee quartet Vinyl Theatre – on tour behind full-length debut, Electrogram – plies indietronic alt rock carried by zippy synthesizers and dance-bopping beats, distorted guitars giving it some teeth and balancing the high youthful tenor of singer-guitarist Keegan Calmes. Machineheart adds value to this Sunday evening bill with model/singer Stevie Scott fronting the synth-pop outfit with plenty of commanding, sultry yet sticky-sweet cooing and piping in infectious tracks like “Circles.” (Local 662, St. Petersburg)

Underhill Family Orchestra With a potent blend of urgent folk rock drive, dust-stained Western swing, haunting Southern gothic Americana and exuberant rock n’ roll comes Underhill Family Orchestra. The Alabama delivers multi-voice choruses that sound like soulful spirituals brightened by the clear dulcet intones of Joelle Underhill and bolstered by washes of twinkling percussion and tambourine, outbursts of hand-clapping, and finely wrought instrumentals that slow down to a pretty and restrained pace or pick up to more explosively charged tempos. Warm up from The Dram and Urbane Cowboys on this night. (New World Brewery, Ybor City)

Sidereal with UnMotivated, Currentz, Oceanstone A free, all ages four-pack of Florida reggae rock talent that includes Jacksonville four-piece Sidereal, their sound hitting funky notes and warm sonic textures that encompass, sax, ukulele and melodic, and ska-infused St. Pete sextet UnMotivated, which hits psychedelic notes in “Masharoni” and dub-sampled sways in “Beer Goggles.” (Jannus Live, St. Petersburg)

Rascal Flatts with RaeLynn The temperatures may be soaring but the big country tours just keep on coming and this latest mega-twang event brings Ohio’s favored country-pop pushers to the amphitheater’s roomy stage. Rascal Flatts is Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney, whose combined vocal might and star power (not to mention a strong team of songwriters and producers) has earned them platinum-selling status on seven of their nine studio albums, and all but one has topped the Billboard Country charts. This tour supports 2014’s Rewind. (MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre, Tampa)

Ol’ Dirty Sundays: DJ Soul Hitting the 1’s and 2’s on this mid-July edition of ODS is New York City mixologist DJ Soul, who blends down and dirty vintage funk, soul and reggae nuggets with golden-era hip hop joints, reading the room and getting bodies moving with professional ease. (Crowbar, Ybor City)
