Tonight in live music; Desorden Publico, Gunpowder Gray, King Lil G, Geri X and more

Jeremy Gloff talks U2, too.

Desorden Publico w/Control This Alright, let’s try this again. After cancelling a June appearance at the Orpheum in Ybor City, Venezuelan ska and punk sextet Desorden Publico is ready to bring a politically-charged, multilingual call for social justice to the Brass Mug in north Tampa. The band has been at it since a 1987 self-titled debut LP was released, and it’ll be interesting to see how the anger has aged over the years.  (Brass Mug, Tampa) INFO

King Lil G Inglewood is still up to no good. Just listen to 90's Kid from California rapper King Lil G, whose flow and entire aesthetic is one giant tribute to the golden days of west coast hip hop. (Crowbar, Ybor City) INFO

Phonogenics: U2 Achtung Baby Jeremy Gloff’s album discussion series is back, and this week the chatter revolves around one of U2’s more polarizing LPs. Additional details, plus more info on cool shit to do this week, are available here. (Disco Dolls Studio, Tampa) INFO

Gunpowder Gray w/Frost Fang/Street Weave If rock and roll ever killed anyone, then Atlanta's Gunpowder Gray may have been the band to have pulled the trigger. Songs like last year's "Straight to Hell" are full blown odes to a time when it was cool to walk onstage with no shirt and a leather vest draped over your sweaty shoulders (we think it's still totally acceptable, by the way). The band will be joined by St. Pete metal outfit Frostfang and a Tampa hard rock band, Street Weave, which is playing its first show tonight at this no cover affair.(The Hub, Tampa) INFO
