Tonight in live music: Destination Okeechobee, Carly Rae Jepsen, Finish Ticket with Vinyl Theatre

A look at some shows happening this Wed., Feb. 17.

Some shows are happening on this Wed., Feb. 17 that should be on your radar. Take a look at the breakdown below...

Finish Ticket with Vinyl Theatre, Irontom
Finish Ticket churns out muscular indie pop built on bright keyboard melodies, riffy guitars and boisterously shifting tempos, the velvety soulful, high-toned lead vocals of frontman Brendan Hoye crooning gently or soaring in yearning or anthemic notes over top. The San Francisco outfit spent much of last fall warming the stage for twenty-one pilots. This year, they co-headline with Milwaukee-based alt rockers Vinyl Theatre, which saw some Sirius XM play in synthy-driving single “Breaking Up My Bones.” (Local 662, St. Petersburg)

Destination Okeechobee Battle of the Bands, Part 2 The Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival already stirred up no shortage of buzz with headliners like Kendrick Lamar, Robert Plant, Mumford & Sons and Skrillex joining nearly a hundred others on a spread of stages in South Florida this March. Fest organizers staged a battle of the bands competition and picked a winner in January, but are now offering the top 32-ranking bands a second chance to get on the bill in live battles held in four different Florida cities, with eight bands performing each battle (like this one at State Theatre featuring Alex the Great, Bangarang, Connor Vance, Denim Blue Music, Glass House Point, Polyenso, The Real Clash and The Western Sons) and the winners claiming one of the four added performance slots at the fest. Said winners are determined by attendance and votes, so if you like any acts listed above, show your support by showing up to this competitive showcase. Admission is $10; show starts at 7 p.m. (State Theatre, St. Petersburg)

Carly Rae Jepsen with Cardiknox, Fairground Saints Her star is rising fast and shining bright, so it’s unlikely that Canadian Idol alum Carly Rae Jepsen will be playing club-size venues for very long, especially in light of hits like "Call Me Maybe" reaching the top of the pop charts and going multi-platinum in several countries, not to mention more than 20 million records sold worldwide as of 2015. This date falls behind the release of third album Emotion, which earned chart success in first single, "I Really Like You." (The Ritz Ybor, Ybor City)
