Tonight in live music: Frank Secich, Jon Shain, Living Colour

A look at some noteworthy concerts happening this Wed., April 6.

There are some shows happening on this fine Hump Day evening. Check out the breakdown for this Wed., April 6 below.

Frank Secich with Room Full of Strangers Some consider cult favorite musician Frank Secich as a key player in the garage and power pop movements of the '70s, via his work with Blue Ash and then with Stiv Bators’ band following his tenure with Dead Boys during their shared Bomp! Records days. He’s led the Deadbeat Poets since 2006, and this year, released a memoir, Circumstantial Evidence, chronicling his rock n’ roll during a rather explosive period of music. He hosts a meet-and-greet, signing and performs an acoustic set on this night, and tomorrow night (Thurs., April 7), at Mojo Books & Records; Room Full of Strangers appears on both nights, joined by David Vassalotti and Gino & The Goons on Thursday. BBQ Wednesday Acoustic Series with Jon Shain Often, there’s a disconnect between album artwork and the music its reps – almost as if it were handled by an out-of-touch art director. The opposite is true, however, of Jon Shain’s Crow the Dawn, his new collaborative effort with banjo playing songwriter Joe Newberry; its simple illustration of a rooster gazing towards the horizon as a sun rises behind him complements an album in which every song sounds like it exists in those sleepy moments right at dawn, when you first reach consciousness and haven’t yet been beset by any of your worries or obligations. Contained in that space between waking and dreaming is a feeling best captured by the sweet, calm bluegrass sounds and naturally balancing harmonies of Shain and Newberry’s vocals. Living Colour with Kaleido, Four Star Riot The Afro-centric Corey Glover-led funk-metal band from NYC that enjoyed their come-up with late ‘80s charter and Grammy-winner "Cult of Personality" has been working on a sixth LP for the past few years – Shade was announced in 2014 to coincide with the band’s 30th anniversary – but no follow-up to 2009’s The Chair in the Doorway has seen the light of day as yet. (Orpheum, Ybor City)–LP
