The Compton emcee drops a hometown-honored music video


Fresh off the release of the phenomenal To Pimp A Butterfly, Kendrick Lamar debuted the video for standout track “King Kunta” in the corporate-iest of corporate ways last night — on a Beats by Dre™ billboard in Times Square. 

Much like the many themes that permeate the album, the video showcases the places and people of Compton, Calif., dancing, drinking and generally having an awesome time on camera with Kendrick. For some reason, the whole thing looks like it was filmed on Instagram with a budget of like, 500 bucks, but it really doesn’t matter. “King Kunta” is probably the best song I’ve heard this year. This video could be three minutes of cats sleeping in weird positions and still be a perfectly acceptable piece of work. Actually, that’d be pretty incredible.
