7 name suggestions for the Pier now that "Pier Park" is a no-go Credit: yelp.com

We've all heard by now that the design concept slated for the St. Pete Pier in 2018 has had to drop the moniker "Pier Park" because apparently it's not the most original name for a development (No!) and some mixed-use deal in the Panhandle already has that name.

As the story has made its rounds on social media, it has served as an opportunity for those still lamenting the loss of the inverted pyramid (that mall thingy that was out there until a couple weeks ago) to yet again mock the concept and the city fathers who let it go forward.

Supposedly, the project is now moving forward as the "St. Pete Pier," which is kind of what everybody would probably call it anyway.

We think the city and the concept's designers ought to reconsider, and opt instead for more creative option, such as one of the following.

1. Tropicana Field, Jr.

2. Bubbles.

4. The Concept Formerly Known as Pier Park (okay, Janelle Irwin said that first; gotta give credit where it's due).

5. There's Booze Here, We Swear.
