Reapportionment in Florida's Congressional and Legislative districts was already destined to be an interesting political story over the next year and a half, and it certainly got potentially more interesting after Florida voters strongly supported amendments 5 & 6 last November, which aim to amend the current practice of drawing of those district lines to establish "fairness" and are "as equal in population as feasible" and use "city, county and geographical boundaries."

There are some political analysts (okay, me for one) who don't believe it will miraculously provide a cure for the seemingly out of whack proportion of Republicans who serve in the state Legislature than Democrats, even though officially there are more registered Democrats in the state.

We'll soon see how this all plays out.  And now Peter Schorsch, the blogger behind St. Petersblog 2.0, with financial backing from a group called Three Bridges Advisors (TBA) have unveiled a new website to track what's going to happen with redestricting called InsideTheLinesFLA.com.

In a press release, Schorsch says "I will bring the same insight and new media perspective to the redistricting process that my blogs have brought to Florida’s political arena."

Published reports last month indicated that Florida may gain two additional Congressional seats in time for the 2012 election.  But that means some other states will lose seats.  Frankly, I've always felt it's sort of silly that we maintain just 435 members of Congress, even though the country gets bigger each year (officially we're now at 311 million people).
