By now you’ve probably driven past at least one protest outside a McDonald’s or Burger King or some other fast “food” restaurant. The organizers — some paid, some volunteers — have held an event highlighting the plight of low-wage earners nearly once a week. They’re fighting not only for fast food workers, but child care workers and nurses’ assistants. Obviously, a $15 minimum wage will probably not ever be a thing in Florida, at least in the near future, but the movement has expanded its message beyond wages, advocating on social justice issues like discriminatory policing.
