Yesterday former state Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer filed suit against the Florida Republican Party in a Seminole county circuit courtroom. Greer, who served as party chair from 2007 until earlier this year, is accusing the party, his replacement John Thrasher, House Speaker-designate Dean Cannon, and others of cheating him out of $123,000 in severance money after he agreed to leave in February.
His lawsuit follows reports that a forensic audit done by the GOP found that Greer was the majority owner of Victory Strategies, the company that former executive director Delmar Johnson was involved with that was being paid by the GOP. Republicans investigating went to the FDLE about the situation on March 15.
But the St. Pete Times/Miami Herald reported Wednesday night about the confidentiality agreement that Greer would continue to be paid and get health care benefits until next February.
The Florida Times-Union reports that some state officials aren't really pleased with John Thrasher right now, since he agreed to keep on paying Greer. Did we say that the Florida Republican Party now says that they don't owe Greer a thing, since they say once they learned he was helping to benefit himself with that contract to Victory Strategies, the severance was off? (Hence his lawsuit).
