Extinction Rebellion (XR) protesters in the U.K. are getting naked in London’s House of Commons. We’re not expecting it to get that cheeky here in Tampa Bay, but the local chapter is heeding an international call for action between April 15-21.

Extinction Rebellion Tampa Bay — which is connected to the international, nonviolent movement dedicated to raising the alarm about the dire threat of climate change — has announced plans to march on Tampa City Hall on Friday, April 19 at 10 a.m. The action happens less than a week before Tampa mayoral runoff elections set for April 23, and a press release said that protesters will stage “a die-in protest and funeral procession to symbolize the deadly seriousness of the climate crisis.”

Meant to build links between XR and other movements, the actions are part of a weeklong effort that includes rallies, demonstrations and protests at U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor’s Tampa office (April 15), St. Petersburg City Hall (April 16), TECO’s downtown Tampa headquarters (April 18) and the aforementioned April 19 march on Tampa City Hall. An April 20 beach uprising social event will wrap up the week.

More information is available via facebook. XR Tampa Bay will also hold an introductory talk at Clearwater’s Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Clearwater on April 7 and host a table St. Petersburg’s Earth Day Festival on April 13.
